The American Gaming Association (AGA) states that Americans will place a record-breaking $23.1 billion (£18.39 billion/€21.52 billion) on the Super Bowl LVIII NFL season finale this weekend.

The San Francisco 49ers will go head-to-head with the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11th at Allegiant Stadium in Nevada. Prior to the game, the AGA conducted a survey of 2,204 adults to forecast betting activity.

The findings indicate that $23.1 billion will be wagered on Super Bowl LVIII. The AGA also predicts that a record 67.8 million individuals are anticipated to place bets, representing a 35.0% increase from Super Bowl LVII.

Of those expected to participate in betting, 42.7 million will wager online, at retail sportsbooks, or with bookmakers. This signifies a 41.0% rise from the previous year. Approximately 36.5 million plan to engage in casual bets with friends or through pools or squares, marking a 32.0% increase.

Regarding the location of betting, 28.7 million, or 11.0% of all bettors, will place wagers at licensed online sportsbooks. The AGA asserts that this demonstrates Americans’ continued shift towards legal markets.

Just a mere 0% of traditional Super Bowl wagerers reported seeing responsible gambling details in the previous twelve months, a decline from 71.0% the year prior.

Furthermore, 47.0% of American adults encountered responsible gambling information in the past year, in contrast to 40.0% in 2023.

“With the Super Bowl arriving in Las Vegas for the first time, this year’s record-breaking betting enthusiasm signifies a notable landmark for the American gaming sector,” stated Bill Miller, president and chief executive officer of the American Gaming Association.

“Our paramount concern remains to ensure this is done correctly, providing consumer protections that only regulated marketplaces can assure, and investing in responsible gaming tools, safeguards, and education.”

Regarding which team bettors are backing, 47.0% intend to wager on the Chiefs, while 44.0% are placing bets on the 49ers.
