The Swedish gaming firm Svenska Spel has declared that it will permanently shut down its Casino Cosmopol brick-and-mortar gambling establishment in Sundsvall. The company stated that the choice was driven by dwindling profits and a decrease in customer turnout at the gambling venue in recent years.

Casino Cosmopol Sundsvall opened its doors in 2001 and was labeled by Svenska Spel as Sweden’s first international casino. However, the casino’s customer attendance has been on a downward trend in recent years.

Svenska Spel stated that the number of patrons visiting the casino has been steadily dropping over the past ten years, which has had a detrimental effect on the casino’s financial standing.

The company also mentioned that the shift of players from traditional gambling to online gambling has also had a negative impact on the casino.

The gambling establishment will close its doors immediately, and the decision will affect 68 workers at the casino.

The company stated that former Sundsvall employees will be invited to apply for other positions within its network.

Swedish gaming giant, Svenska Spel, has declared the closure of its Sundsvall gambling house due to a decline in customer numbers and profitability. Patrick Hofbauer, the company’s chief executive, stated that the firm was compelled to make this challenging decision due to the current market environment.

The closure will not impact Svenska Spel’s gambling establishments in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö, although all locations are presently closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The Sundsvall casino shut its doors on March 29th, resulting in the dismissal of 800 workers. The company has launched a retraining program for dismissed employees, enabling them to pursue careers in the healthcare sector.
