The British Columbia Gaming Commission (BCLC) recently published its yearly review, illustrating the progress it’s achieving toward its 2030 environmental, societal, and governance (ESG) objectives. The review emphasizes significant programs that demonstrate BCLC’s dedication to ethical gaming, reconciliation with First Nations communities, diversity and inclusivity, and ecological sustainability.

The review, entitled “Succeeding with Purpose: BCLC Yearly Review,” outlines the advancements made in 2022/23 in incorporating social responsibility into its operations to generate positive influence while delivering financial returns. It stresses how BCLC effectively provided over \$1.6 billion in net revenue to the province while striving to bolster its social and environmental pledges.

“This review showcases the effect of our purpose-driven activities and how we are generating value for our patrons, our communities, and a future with a healthy planet,” said Jim Goodings, BCLC’s Sustainable Innovation Manager.

“Succeeding with Purpose” details the tangible measures BCLC is undertaking to achieve its ESG aims. These encompass: improving the “Game Break” self-exclusion program; reinforcing efforts towards reconciliation with First Nations communities; fostering diversity through specialized gatherings; initiating a decarbonization plan; and establishing a stakeholder governance structure.

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has made significant progress in fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. A noteworthy program, introduced during BC Multiculturalism Week, is the “Holiday Flexibility Initiative.” This initiative allows employees to exchange up to six statutory holidays for dates that hold individual, cultural, or spiritual meaning for them.
