With the 2024 European Football Championship drawing near, France is preparing to tackle the possible drawbacks of its wagering enthusiasm. A sizable segment of the French populace, particularly young adults, are anticipated to gamble on the games. To preempt this, the French National Gambling Regulatory Body (ANJ) is initiating a fresh initiative to heighten consciousness regarding compulsive gambling.

It’s understandable why there’s apprehension. Football is already the most favored sport for wagering in France, representing over half of all digital bets. As the Euros loom and the French squad is projected to perform admirably, the ANJ is employing some rather impactful strategies to encourage individuals to reconsider before placing a wager.

Following the 2021 European Championship, where concerns arose, wagering firms within France have intensified efforts to address compulsive betting. They’ve modified their approaches, launching initiatives across various mediums – encompassing digital advertisements, social media promotions on platforms like Snapchat, audio spots, and even print placements in sports publications such as “So Foot.” Additionally, they are employing prominent athletes to convey the message through video content.

Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, the leading authority at the French gaming regulatory body (ANJ), has observed the change. She notes that these companies are now significantly more cognizant of their obligations. However, the ANJ is not relaxing its vigilance. They will maintain close scrutiny, particularly during major tournaments like the Euros and the Olympics, to ensure adherence to regulations.
